Great expectations & aborted business initiatives: the paradox of social robot between research and industry
In recent years we have witnessed a significant increase of interest in social robots whose main aim is to assist human users in their social and home environment. Examples of promising social robots research topics include care of the elderly, education, and entertainment. Therefore, these successes have generated high expectations for social robotics. Despite the hype, the last decade has seen the failure of many social robotics start-ups.
After finishing my Master degree in my home country of Argentina, I had the opportunity to continue my career as a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Luxembourg. After obtaining my Ph.D. I decided to work in the robotics industry for a few years. Later coming back to resume my academic career.
